I stand next to the kitchen island, assessing the mess I’ve made: open drawers, cabinets, and ceramic jars; a refrigerator at a slightly awkward angle; my recipe books strewn all over the countertops; and still not a single clue surfaced. No evidence of anything that would point to a bug or camera hidden anywhere. Not a hint about the madman who’s after me and using my kids as leverage to keep me in line.
Did he stake out our home? Disarm the security system and break into the house in the middle of the night while we slept? That could explain why he knows so much about my family. Dale, the IT guy at work I asked to identify the source of the calls, confirmed my suspicion that the stalker is most likely using several burner phones, which makes him difficult to track.
In a matter of days, Alessandro and his daughters will be whisked out of the country on a private jet I’ve chartered on their behalf. After they leave, I can focus all my attention on stopping him. I don’t have a title I can assign to the psychopath. The phrase “stalker” seems to give him the upper hand somehow...
